Offered here is a circa 1870 Carrick smooth face cleek. The head bears only the well known makers mark "X", as was used by Carrick in his early work. Carrick irons are famous for the fact that they were the first to include a trademark, and the offered club contains a bold trademark "X". According to The Clubmaker's Art by Jeff Ellis, Carrick clubs, as well as John Gray clubs, "are now regarded by collectors...as the best example of hand-forged work."
This is an exceptional 1870s Carrick cleek. 38 3/4".
