In 1961, Karsten Solheim first produced the PING 69 putter, and a patent was received in October 1963. In his advertising, Karsten referred to the 69 series of putters as "Hot Dog" putters because of the shape of the head. Though Karsten preferred the name "69," which he described as "a pretty good golf score." The PING 69FTL putter was released in 1963 (later than the other 69 variations) in much more limited quantities. FTL stands for Flat, Thin, Long. This PING 69FTL has a Z-bend shaft. This Scottsdale PING 69FTL Z-Bend putter is in excellent condition. PING moved from Scottsdale to Phoenix in mid-1966, so this putter pre-dates that move.
