Offered here is a truly unique receipt from early feather ball maker William Robertson to James Cundell. This exquisite receipt is dated 1816 in St Andrews, and is for a whopping 12 dozen feather golf balls. Cundell, who famously authored some of the oldest rules of golf for the Leith Thistle Club 8 years later in 1824, would've almost certainly been purchasing golf balls for the Thistle Club. And to demonstrate Wm. Robertson's place in the ball making hierarchy, an average wage in that era was less than 10 shillings per week. And Robertson filled a single order of golf balls for 6 pounds!

This 202 (!) year old document was part of Mart Olman's legendary Leith Thistle find of early documents and scorecards. The only comparable item we can find is a similar William Robertson receipt that came from that same Olman find, and was being offered for sale by Golf Links to the Past. That other receipt is slightly later, and it was not written in St. Andrews. It was previously offered for sale for $18,500.

Visible receipt measures 6" x 2 1/4", and framed to an oversize size of 12" x 8".
