Bobby Jones is perhaps the most famous name in the history of golf. There's a funny thing about that name, though. Jones himself detested the name "Bobby." Though the public took to calling him "Bobby," he was known as Robert to most, and Bob to those he knew best.

As such, Bobby Jones signed autographs in two primarily ways - some version of "Robt. T. Jones, Jr." (to strangers or vague acquaintances) and as "Bob" or "Bob Jones" (to those who knew him best). Jones was a prolific signer and autographs as Robert T. Jones, Jr. or as Bob/Bob Jones number in the thousands.

But in his entire life of signing autographs, only on a few occasions did he ever sign his name "Bobby Jones."

There are thought to be as few as a half dozen "Bobby" Jones autographs in existence, including the offered example. We don't know the exact reason why Jones decided to sign this autograph "Bobby," but the collecting community is forever grateful.

This Bobby Jones autograph is on an original photograph by Julian Graham, who had a studio at the old Del Monte Hotel in California from 1924 to 1944. He then moved his studio to the Lodge at Pebble Beach. This photograph is actually hand signed by Graham on the bottom right.
