This is a rare original photograph of "Old Daw" Anderson. Old Daw was Old Tom Morris' caddie when he played, and was the father of 3-time Open Champion Jamie Anderson. This original photograph is part of a larger photo that depicted Old Tom Morris, Allan Robertson, and others. Judging by the number of clubs under Old Daw's arms, he was caddying for Old Tom and at least one other golfer on this day.
The caption of this photograph stats "Old Daw", father of Jamie Anderson of St. Andrews, Open Champion, - 1856."
To put the rarity of this photograph in perspective, the invention of the camera only arrived to small town Scotland in approximately 1850. And the first cameras were only owned by a local professional photographer or two. For a "lowly" caddie like Old Daw in the 1850s to think that a photograph of them still exists (and is highly desirable!) in 2018 would surely blow his mind!
