But offered here is the crème de la crème – not just any feathery but a W&J Gourlay feathery. W&J refers to William and John Gourlay. Most collectors are familiar with John (J.) Gourlay (1815-1869) and his legendary featheries, but prior to working on his own, “J. Gourlay” worked with his older brother William (1813-1844). William tragically died young - at the age of 31 - in 1944. Featheries made by this short lived partnership are stamped 'W&J GOURLAY' and were only made between 1838 and 1844.

This is a high grade W&J Gourlay feathery golf ball, one of the finest we've ever seen. The ball is virtually unimprovable; it contains an exceptional “W&J Gourlay” stamp and is also stamped “28” which stands for 28 pennyweights.
