5 years ago we brought up for auction a Ben Hogan Personal Model 1 iron that brought a record $19,581. That consignor, a prominent golf club collector, owned three more of Ben Hogan's personal clubs. Now, years later, we are finally able to bring all 3 up for auction in one lot.

Offered here are Ben Hogan's Personal Model MacGregor 7, 8, and 9 irons with matching model #s 1503. The clubs shows an exceptional amount of use - with Hogan's personal wear spots in the center of each club.

All of Ben Hogan's Personal Model clubs are desirable, but the offered clubs differ significantly from the others known to exist. The Ben Hogan stamp is taller and uneven - quite similar to the above-referenced auction record 1 iron. Based on the stampings and the shaft bands, they appear to date the club to the mid to late 1940s - making these perhaps the earliest known Hogan Personal Model irons. The model number (1503) is also unique to this group. Lastly, while they have been regripped long ago, they still have the reminder "ridge" at the 5:30 grip position that reportedly was a feature on Hogan's persona clubs.

Simply put, these MagGregor Ben Hogan Personal Model irons from the 1940s represent the rare chance to own Hogan's own clubs from the early prime of his career - before his founding of the Ben Hogan company in 1953 and even before his near-fatal car accident in 1949.
