A long nose play club, circa 1850s, by Douglas McEwan (1809-1886) of Musselburgh. This delicate and elegant short spoon is a fine example of an early gutta percha ball era club by one of the finest clubmakers of the mid 1800s. Though the McEwan name is now synonymous with quality, Douglas McEwan made very few golf clubs in comparison to his chief rival Hugh Philp of St Andrews.

The club is in pretty nice shape with two small chips in the face at the top line. It has a nice deep McEwan stamp on the crown. The leather insert looks to be from the period and the grip, while possibly not original, is again from the period. 43 1/2" long.
