Truly historic photographic print produced in 1887 or sometime shortly after to commemorate the 2 brothers who co-owned the course record of 77 at the Old Course at St Andrews - Young Tom Morris and J.O.F. Morris. Young Tom went around St Andrews in 77 strokes at the 1869 St Andrews Professional Tournament - beating by 2 strokes the prior course record of 79 strokes co-owned by Old Tom Morris and Allan Robertson. 18 years later, in 1887, still no one had gone lower. But Tommy's younger brother J.O.F. Morris equaled his famous brother's score of 77. Young Tom Morris had been dead for a dozen years, but the Morris brothers co-owning the course record was major news in St Andrews. Their record would eventually be broken just 2 years later. 

This photographic print was likely produced in or around 1887. Produced from studio portraits by James Fairweather. Exceptional handwritten fountain pen inscription on the back that refers to the "late" Tommy, but does not refer to J.O.F. as being deceased. Therefore, the inscription is period for the piece, as it appears to have been written before J.O.F. passed away in 1906.
