This is an original Type I oversized photograph from the infamous 1937 Babe Ruth and Babe Zaharias charity match at Flushing Meadow in NY. An estimated 10,000 New Yorkers paid $1 each to attend the match of the two Babes against golf hustler Joe Montague and local amateur Sylvia Annenberg. With no gallery ropes, and a crowd that reportedly knew little about golf or golf etiquette, it was pandemonium as the New Yorkers all wanted to see or even touch Babe Ruth and Babe Didrikson (she married George Zaharias a year later). Babe Ruth was knocked down on the 6th hole, and multiple shots were unable to be played due to the crowd, so the match was abandoned after the 9th hole.
This original 1937 photograph measures 14" x 17" and is stamped by the Dispatch News Service in NY on the bottom right.
