F.H. Ayres was a well-regarded golf ball maker, and we've sold some high quality turn of the century Ayres gutties in the past. But now that we've seen the offered piece, we know that Ayres was more than just a ball maker. This is a late 1890s to early 1900s golf swing device called The Ion Golf Trainer by F.H. Ayres London. The 3" tall case iron base has a coiled wire that attaches to a bramble golf ball. Certainly one of the finest early golf training devices that we have encountered.
