When we first discovered that this putter was in the legendary "Chicago Find," we didn't know whether to be excited - or to call the cops. 

Why? Well, this putter isn't supposed to exist. 

Back in 1994, 97 solid copper Scotty Cameron heads were stolen from Scotty's warehouse before they were finished or had anything additional stamping to become a copper Classic X. No other examples were believed to exist. We asked Scotty Cameron expert and supercollector Bill "Vog" Vogeney whether any of those 97 heads have surfaced in the intervening 26 years. Nope...

So was it time to call the cops? Not so fast. It turns out that this is indeed a 98th head (or, perhaps, the 97th head but only 96 were actually stolen). Vog himself had heard rumors of its existence, but this is the first time it has seen the light of day in years. It turns out that Bob Bettinardi, who worked for Scotty Cameron before starting his eponymous putter company, had one of these copper heads in his possession while the heist occurred. Later, this rare head was shafted (but not finished in any other way), and sold to our consignor. 

It only makes sense that the thieves were interested in the copper, not a bunch of raw putter heads of a largely unknown putter maker. So we can be all but certain that those stolen heads were melted many years ago. If so, the putter offered here is likely the only remaining surviving example. 35".
