Offered here is a circa 1895 Robert Simpson Patent "Hornite" Head Transitional Driver. According to Jeff Ellis, "The head on this transitional driver appears to be made from varnished wood, but it has been painted to do so! It is actually made from "hornite," which is actually compressed paper fiber, and quickly became known as Simpson's "Paper Mache" driver." Very few of these Simpson "Hornite" drivers are known to still exist.
