Offered here is a circa 1890s Robert Anderson & Sons Center Shafted Oval putter. In 1892, Robert Anderson, the Edinburgh clubmaker, was the first to patent the center shafted wood, which was then followed by a patent for the first center shafted iron. This is a rare oval putter produced at that time by Anderson & Sons. According to The Clubmaker's Art, "they did not prove popular with golfers of the day and are therefore rarely seen today." This rare club is in excellent condition.
