This is a rare original photograph of the 1941/42 United States Ryder Cup Team. Yes, even though Europe was in the midst of World War 2, the PGA still selected a Ryder Cup Team. That team staged a Challenge Match to be held at Oakland Hills in August of 1942.
Though this team did not get to participate in the actual Ryder Cup, it remains one of the most impressive squads ever assembled. We've have to think the American team's odds would have been strong with Major Championship winners Horton Smith, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Lloyd Mangrum, Jimmy Demaret, and Vic Ghezzi all on the same team!
