This is a rare circa 1894 Ramsbottom patent metal wood. According to The Clubmaker's Art, the fact is made from hornite with dovetail-like joints on crown and sole. Contains a hickory shaft and sheepskin grip. This club is in delicate condition, and no attempt has been made to correct or restore anything on the club. The clubhead is somewhat loose, and the grip is in fair to poor condition.
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 281; TCA 2, p. 336). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
