Offered here is a circa 1903 Taylor Patent "rasp face" anti-shank iron by Robert Forgan. According to The Clubmaker's Art, this clubface contains outwardly projecting teeth adapted to imbed themselves in the face of the golf ball. According to Jeff Ellis, "perhaps unsurprisingly, this is the only known example of Taylor's rasp face iron, as the teeth must surely have ruined the casing of the player's golf balls." Overall excellent condition.
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books The Golf Club (p. 85) and The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 2, p. 278). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
