Exceptional original cabinet card of Freddie Tait. Tait famously won the Amateur Championship twice in his short career - 1896 and 1898. Tait's career would be tragically cut short when he was killed in action during the Second Boer War in South Africa on February 7, 1900. Tait was like a son to Old Tom Morris, who felt like he buried yet another child when Tait died.
This 1890s cabinet card photograph of Freddie Tait is from the famed Fairweather studio in St Andrews. Gold embossed Fairweather logo on bottom right. The reverse contains a great period inscription: "Freddy Tait. My father's friend. He was a great man." 4 1/4" x 6 1/2".
