Offered here is a rare 1936 Olympic Game golf medallion.

When Germany was host of the 1936 Olympic Games, Adolf Hitler had intended the games to showcase is "Masters Race." The American Jesse Owens, among others, had other plans. Immediately following the Olympic Games, Hitler also staged additional competitions handpicked for his belief in German dominance, including horse riding, tennis, and golf. Though not official Olympic Games events, they were staged by similar committees and celebrated in a similar manner.

Reportedly, Hitler did not plan on attending the Golf Competition in 1936, but his plans changed when the German team rushed out to a 5 stroke lead after day 1 of the 2 day event. On the 2nd day, the Fuhrer left for the Golf Club of Baden-Baden in anticipation of himself handing out the winner's trophy to the German Champions. The German team played poorly, however, relegated to 3rd place behind the British and French teams. Word got to a furious Hitler, and his driver turned around and headed back to Berlin without Hitler ever getting out of his car at the golf course.

This Olympic Games golf medallion was like a contestant's medal or something of that sort. 3 1/4" diameter. A truly remarkable piece of golf and Olympic Games history.
