This is a great original photograph of Bobby Jones before the start of the 1931 US Amateur, which was held at Beverly CC in Chicago. Bobby Jones is depicted reviewing the entry list for the 1931 US Amateur. Jones was, of course, the defending Champion following his 1930 Grand Slam. But the legendary golfer retired immediately after the 1930 Grand Slam. So despite being just 29 years old in this photograph, and being physically present for the tournament, Bobby Jones did not compete. Jones' abstention was perhaps good news for another legendary golfer, as 38 year old Francis Ouimet would end up winning the 1931 US Am. 6" x 8". PSA Type 1.
