Offered here is something we've never seen before. These 1930s Silver King golf balls were apparently issued to golfers who competed in the 1939 Open Championship at St Andrews, which was won by Richard Burton. This was the last Open Championship for seven years, because of the war. While this practice of free golf balls to competitors is ubiquitous in the modern game, we did not realize that this occurred back in the 1930s.
Included in this lot is an original box of Silver King High Velocity (HV) golf balls bearing the "Open Championship 1939" sticker on the lid. Inside the box are 3 original sealed Silver King HV golf balls. The box condition is poor with the lid separated from the rest of the box. The golf balls are in excellent condition still preserved in their original wrappers.
