Offered here is a circa 1914 Gibson patent "The Princeps" putter. Smooth-faced iron putter with an offset blade. The putter was designed to impart topspin on the ball. Most importantly, this particular Pinceps putter is stamped by Harry Vardon of Totteridge. Vardon became the professional at Totteridge in 1903, and remained there until his death in 1937. Unlike any mass produced club bearing Vardon's name, this club was actually stamped and sold at Vardon's shop at Totteridge, and perhaps assembled there as well.
