Offered here is a circa 1860s-70s F&A Carrick smooth face ironlofter. But not just any Carrick club, this is an example of the Carricks' early work - when they stamped their clubs "Carrick" and not "F&A Carrick / Musselburgh". Carrick irons are also famous for the fact that they were the first to include a trademark, and the offered club contains a bold trademark "X" stamp on the head. According to The Clubmaker's Art by Jeff Ellis, Carrick clubs, as well as John Gray clubs, "are now regarded by collectors...as the best example of hand-forged work."

This is an early "Carrick" iron is in very good condition.
