Offered here is a Bobby Jones autographed trophy golf ball that comes with a staggering amount of provenance.
Bobby Jones autographed golf balls are truly scarce. In our 17 year history, we've sold only 5 golf balls that were autographed by Bobby Jones. But no Bobby Jones golf ball - no matter how confident one can be about authenticity - can stand up to the ironclad provenance of the offered golf ball.
This Bobby Jones autographed Spalding black dot tournament golf ball is mounted on a Sterling Silver base which reads Atlanta Rotary Club 1935. It was awarded at a 1935 Atlanta Rotary Club event to a young ambassador visiting from England named Richard Arthur Miles of Milnthorpe.
Quite amazingly, this autographed golf ball trophy is referenced in detail by four different September 1935 newspaper articles:
"Before the speaking began, the English guests were presented souvenirs of their Atlanta visit - silver-mounted golf balls autographed by Bobby Jones." -The Atlanta Journal, September 17, 1935
"In Atlanta, as gifts of the Rotary Club they received golf balls autographed by Bobby Jones and mounted on silver bases." -The Savannah Morning News, September 29, 1935
"a set of golf balls autographed by Bobby Jones." -The Atlanta Georgian, September 16, 1935
"golf balls, on silver mounts, autographed by Bobby Jones." -The Atlanta Constitution, September 17, 1935
6 3/4" tall on a 2 7/8" diameter base.
