Offered here is President Dwight Eisenhower's actual Spalding Robt. T. Jones (Bobby Jones) sand iron. This club was custom made by Spalding for Dwight D. Eisenhower, former 5-star Army General, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during WWII, and the 34th President of the United States of America. "General Ike" was close friends with Bobby Jones and a member of Augusta National. He joined in 1948 and played there 45 times over the course of his life. In 1953, the members at Augusta National built him a cabin. The Eisenhower tree on hole 17 was famously named for him. Today, Dwight D. Eisenhower stands as one of the greatest Americans in history.
This outstanding sand wedge was provided by the family for a charity auction years ago. The club still retains the tag acknowledging Julie and David Eisenhower as the donors. The 1965-67 Spalding Elite head is custom marked "General Ike" with 5 stars. The sole is stamped "Robert T. Jones Sand Club." The black ferrule is stamped "1AAAAA" to further honor the character of the man. The face shows normal wear, and the chevron rubber grip is original.
General Ike loved the game, but was not the best golfer. While running for re-election during the 1956 presidential race (which he won), a popular bumper sticker said, “Ben Hogan For President. If We’re Going To Have A Golfer, Let’s have a good one.”
