On May 27, 1908, just three days after he passed away at the ripe old age of 86, the town of St Andrews laid to rest its favorite son - Tom Morris. Though he was born the son of a linen weaver, and never received much schooling, Tom Morris' death was reported by newspapers across the globe.

Back in St Andrews, the town wept. A funeral was held at St. Mary's Church - because Tom's church Holy Trinity was undergoing renovations at the time. St. Mary's could only accommodate some of the people wishing to pay their respects, and the crowd overflowed into the streets. At the conclusion of the service, the organ played the Dead March, and Old Tom's coffin was carried out by the likes of Andra Kirkaldy, Sandy Herd, and Willie & David Auchterlonie. The funeral procession that followed was reportedly attended by nearly every man, woman, and child in St Andrews, in addition to well wishers that traveled from every corner of Scotland. Then, at 3pm, Tom's coffin was lowered into the ground at the Morris family plot - finally reunited with his beloved Tommy, who died 33 years prior.

Offered here is an original program from Old Tom Morris' funeral. Surely only a handful exist. The program measures 4 1/2" x 7 1/4" (9 1/4" x 7 1/4" when open). It is in very good condition.
