In 1928, this "Golf Sickle" was advertised as able to provide "great exercise cutting grass or weeds. Swings like a golf club."

The British registered design No. 689194 was issued on March 25, 1922, to Holtzapffel & Company, 53 Haymarket, St. James, London.

This was no ordinary weed cutter. Given the sharp double-edge blade at the end of the steel hosel, any unfortunate sole in charge of chopping off a few weeds could practice his or her swing while "hard at work."  Artistically designed to approximate a golf grip, the wood along the upper length of the shaft is not only ribbed but also slightly larger in diameter than the rest of the shaft.   The butt end of the 37 1/2" shaft has its original brass cap. In beautiful condition, this is a fascinating perimeter piece that's out of the ordinary AND still has its original leather blade cover!
