Charles Kennett of Newmarket England sought a way to concentrate more weight behind the ball. So he devise and patented an iron that had a thicker than normal blade but included holes in the hosel, heel, and toe. According to his 1928 British patent, the holes in the heel and toe could be left completely open or they could sometimes be filled with lightweight rivets of aluminum or other material to keep debris from collecting in the holes.

The heel and toe on this club have been drilled through with multiple holes that were filled with aluminum plugs. The aluminum plugs would prevent the holes from filling with dirt and grass, etc., so the club would be easy to clean while still allowing a good amount of weight to be removed from the heel and toe.  Club has its original 38 1/4" shaft and grip. Twelve holes drilled in the hosel are open to the shaft. This allowed for the shaft to swell into the holes and helped to fasten the head to the shaft.

This is a wonderful, extremely rare companion piece to the Kennett drilled-face iron also offered in this auction.
