Offered here is a circa 1860s large stamp Carrick X lofter. This club features a 40 1/2" shaft with an exceptionally large blade and a 5-inch hosel. The original grip is still intact, and the clubhead is in great condition with little use, exhibiting a flat face.

Francis & Archibald Carrick were first listed as "edge tool manufacturers" in the Musselburgh Directory for 1848-1849. In the late 1850s or 1860s, following the deaths of Francis and Archibald, Alex and Archibald Jr. took over the business and continued to operate as F&A Carrick. For the Carricks, forging irons was more of a sideline to their primary business of making tools. They were among the first cleekmakers to mark their irons.

This particular lofter dates to the 1860s and is one of the largest Carrick irons. The hosel measures 5 inches in length, and the blade is exceptionally large, measuring 2 1/8 inches in depth. The face is relatively flat. The Carrick name is stamped in large letters with Carrick's "X" cleekmark underneath. The grain of the wrought iron used to construct the head is visible on both the front and back of the blade. The 40 1/2" shaft and leather grip are original.

This is an exceptionally large Carrick lofter in all respects, from shaft length to head size. An outstanding club!  The ball included in the images is not part of this lot.  It is shown to give perspective.
