Offered here is an original cabinet card photograph that depicts James Ogilvy Fairlie, one of the most important golf figures of the mid-19th century. Fairlie shocked the golf community in 1851 by luring the biggest name in golf, Tom Morris, away from his hometown of St Andrews to Prestwick. And despite being an aristocrat, Fairlie was a close friend of Tom Morris despite their differences in classes in 19th century Scotland. Morris even named one of his sons, JOF, after James Ogilvy Fairlie.

This cabinet card photograph of James Ogilvie Fairlie was taken by celebrated St Andrews photographer Thomas Rodger. 4 1/4” x 6 1/4”.

This cabinet card photo was previously owned by Tom Morris biographer Peter Crabtree, and was part of his legendary collection.
