Made by MacGregor between 1927 and 1929, this MacGregor Chieftain matching driver, brassie, and spoon have ivory inserts in the face, ivory inserts in the crown, and ivory backweights. The red dots on these clubs are threaded Scruloc inserts made from galalith, a casein product made from goats milk. Really.

When they were made, Chieftains were the most expensive MacGregor clubs a golfer could buy.  They were available with either wood or steel shafts.  This set has black Mac-oid covered steel shafts that are in great condition complete with their original leather grips. Driver is 43 1/2", Brassie is 43", Spoon is 41 3/4".

The hairline crack between the tip of the shaft and the set screw on the back of each head is typical for these clubs and of little concern. The cracks have ran their course.

The shafts and grips and all the ivory and other inlays are original. The finish is original. All the identifying marks on the top of the heads and the soleplates are still there.  Truly a beautiful set, one of the best set of Chieftains I have seen in a long time.
