Offered here is a set of winged MT Tourney Colokrom TP model irons, 2-9, 11 (wedge).

Between 1955 and 1957, MacGregor offered winged MT Tourney Colokrom irons with a “V-Back” design and copper face.  These were not only popular clubs, they were visibly striking with their rich copper faces.  MacGregor’s catalog notes:

“Although the copper hitting area docs add a note of beauty, the basic reason for this unique hitting surface is to help all golfers—scratch or 100 shooters — improve their games. The copper plating is soft and there’s three times as much of it as the plating on any other iron. This enables the club head to literally "grab” the ball and throw it accurately toward the cup. Your hands tell you this the first time you play with a set of Colokroms.”

MacGregor’s catalogs, however, did not offer copper face TP model MT Colokrom irons.  MacGregor’s 1955 catalog notes that Toney Penna was the man behind not just the MT Colokrom irons but many of MacGregor’s designs:

“Toney Penna, while famous in tournament play as a "Sweet Swinger," is better known in the inner circles of golf as the most imaginative and foremost club designer in the world today. Models like the "MT" Colokrom irons, "MT” Eye-O-Matic woods, the Double Service and Double Duty irons, as well as a host of other original developments, were all created in Toney’s fertile mind.”

Retail MT Colokrom irons were all stamped with a model number, such as M85, M75, M65, and M55.  The MT Colokrom “TP” model offered here was not a retail offering and is not found in any MacGregor catalogs.  This set has its original Pro-Pel 1 shafts and shaft bands. In addition to bearing a custom “TP” stamp on the back of the head, the individual iron numbers are located on the heel of the sole, not the toe like they are on every retail winged MT set ever sold.

Very special set in outstanding condition!
