Offered here are two sterling silver captain’s tasting spoons hall-marked Birmingham from Royal St. George’s Golf Club - dating from 1927 and 1928. Bobby Jones won his 2nd of three Opens in 1927 (at St Andrews) and Walter Hagen won his third of four Opens in 1928 at Royal St. George's.

Designed by the prestigious firm of Elkington, these tasting spoons were used at the annual dinner honoring the current and past captains of the club. Superbly detailed in every respect, these long-stemmed handles are fashioned in the likeness of a vine and embellished with a grape. Exquisitely hand-etched on the verso of the recessed vessel is club’s distinctive coat of arms headed by the words. Founded in 1877, the club is perhaps only surpassed by the Royal and Ancient in terms of champions and history. Given their lovely condition, Elkington artisanship, direct association with one of the world’s most historic venues, and Connection with Jones and Hagen, items with this lineage are extremely scarce and seldom seen, mush less offered to the public. The spoons measures approximately 6 7/8 inches long.
