As a result of all the attention Merion gets with its wicker basket standards, most everyone overlooks the fact that those wicker baskets are only used on 18 of Merion's 36 holes. Indeed, Merion's West course uses rather traditional pin flags - red flags for the front 9, and orange flags for the back 9 (mirroring the colors of the wicker baskets on the East Course).
