Huge, stunning 1897 golf trophy by famed Tiffany & Co. This large stein was awarded by the Ocean County Hunt & Country Club Mid-Winter Tournament for their Open Handicap Cup. Ocean Hunt was one of the original 40 Allied Members of the USGA. This magnificent five-pint stein features a line cut gutty ball and adorned thumb pull lid. The lower part of the stein has three additional line cut balls intertwined with pine branches and pine cones. The fancy repose lettering on the top of the lid says "Mid Winter Golf Tournament". The body of the stein repose lettering is "Ocean City Hunt and Country Club, Thirty Six Holes Medal Play, won by Herbert L. Pratt, Lakewood, N.J." Herbert L. Pratt was an American businessman and leading figure in the United States Oil industry. In 1923, he became the head of Standard Oil. In addition to the fancy repose lettering on the trophy there is a similarly produced intricate scene on the trophy of 2 golfers and a caddie on the course.
