Offered here is a coveted Wilson "Designed by Arnold Palmer" putter. This original Designed by Arnold Palmer putter is complete with its 35.5" shaft, original leather-wrapped paddle grip, grip collar, and original Head Speed shaft band. The head shows notable bag wear from normal use.
Offered in 1962, Palmer's design proved extremely popular. Palmer (like many professionals) primarily used MacGregor Tommy Armour flanged putters during his career.prior to the early 60s. When Wilson offered Palmer's design in 1962, it took off. When he left the company in 1963, Wilson removed the "Designed by" from the sole but offered the same identical club, complete with Palmer's name. When Palmer opened his own company in 1964, Wilson produced the same head and shaft and labeled it "The Wilson 8802," removing any reference to Palmer. Indeed, it was a great putter. Wilson continued to produce The 8802 and it found a home in the bags of many top professionals. In addition, Palmer's design can be credited for inspiring Karsten Solheim to create a unique putter the Tour pros might like even more. And that is exactly what happened. Karsten's answer to Palmer's putter was the Ping Anser, introduced in 1966.
