Cheiftain woods were made between 1927 and 1929, and most came with steel shafts.  This Driver, Brassie, and Spoon were reshafted with wood shafts in recent years by John Gates who also did the refinish/restoration work.  Gates was well known for his meticulous craftsmanship.

Driver is 43 1/2 inches. All clubs have period-style replacement grips. The shafts have been stamped "J Gates." The spoon does not have "MacGregor Chieftain" marked on the crown.  As MacGregor explains in a 1930 catalog, all the white crown and face inserts and backweights on these heads are ivory. Only the red, green, and black colored "pins" found on the face, crown, and backweight are Yardsmore inlays.  All the ivory on all these clubs is original.  The wood is clean and tight.  Stunning clubs.
