Marked "Hunt nonrustable" on the back of the head and "Hunt Mfg. A. & C. P. Co. Westboro, Mass, on the shaft, this Hunt niblick features a concave face with a rounded back.
The Hunt Manufacturing Company, based in Westboro, Massachusetts, was making clubs between January 1901 and August 1902. Originally a bicycle maker, the company transitioned into golf club production during this period. Their irons were made from a unique non-rustable yellowish metal, and the shafts marked with "Hunt Mfg. Co. / A. & C. P. Co., Westboro, Mass.," indicating ownership by the Automobile & Cycle Parts Company of Cleveland, Ohio.
This 37 1/4" example has its original grip and remains in outstanding condition. A fine rarity for an early American club collector.
