This circa 1870s long spoon was made by the four-time Open champ and Grand Old Man of Golf, Tom Morris. The head is solid and its finish has been neatly reworked. The 44" shaft has five sections of whipping along its length and is stamped with the owner's initials "GTG." The shaft and grip are original.
Despite all the whpping on the shaft, it does not appear cracked. Shaft whipping could be used to strengthen the shaft if not to stiffen the whip of the club. It was not always for repairs, but either way the whipping can be seen as adding a bit of character.
The club has a nice, clean look and the name is still reasonably visible as shown in the images.
