Working in Aberdeen, on the east coast of Scotland, Ludovic Sandison made both golf clubs and fishing rods.
The top of this head is stamped "Sandison." This is unusual as most Sandison clubs (of the few that are out there) are marked "L. Sandison, Aberdeen." The 38" shaft however, is hideous. It is neither original nor does it look like anything from the period. Furthermore, it is nor properly fit to the clubhead. However, the head deserves a proper reshaft. Sandison clubs are extremely hard to located and this is the only "Sandison-only" stamped example known to the auctioneer.
There is some wear to the toe and a little chatter across the topline. The face has vertical scoring of sorts that is a bit wider than normal, but it is what the owner wanted. It's all part of the sport. Given a proper reshaft, this solid head would be highly presentable. Again, the scarcity of this club makes its weaknesses much, much easier to accept.
This is an exceedingly rare club by a maker whose work is scarcely seen and eminently collectible.
