This set of MacGregor Toney Penna Eye-O-Matic Oil Hardened  WWT fairway woods (2-3-4) are in their original white finish and still have their original shafts and grips (43” 2-wood).  The shafts have lost a large amount of their chrome and need to be cleaned up, or possibly reshafted with matching True Temoper shafts from the 1950s which are out there..  These clubs show use, but still stand as good, honest examples of one of the rarest and most desirable MacGregor persimmon woods ever made.

Offered by MacGregor in 1954, The Toney Penna WWT woods with their previously unheard of white finish were available by custom order only.  At $100 for a set of four, they were the most expensive woods MacGregor offered that year.   The 1954 MacGregor catalog presents Penna and his WWT woods as follows:

WWT—Toney Penna . . . is better known in the inner circles of golf as the most imaginative and foremost club designer in the world today. Models like the "MT” irons and woods, the Double Service and Double Duty irons, as well as a host of other original developments, were all created in Toney's fertile mind. Now it is MacGregor’s pleasure and privilege to introduce the newest example of his outstanding creativeness.

Custom-made by only the most skilled of MacGregor’s craftsmen, these woods require no flattering description to bolster their appeal. In fact, detail perfect in every respect, description cannot do them justice. This new model is different all around because it’s made-to-order only! Except that the hand-selected persimmon is finished in a surpassingly beautiful White glaze, a unique and new tone, there is an optional choice of head models, men’s or ladies’; any of MacGregor’s exclusive True Temper Tourney shaft patterns; also choice of any Eyc-O-Matic twocolor combination or solid color fibre face inserts; black or red molded-to-shaft Tourney grips; black or red stamp filling and face scoring. Please be certain to include complete and detailed specifications. WW—Same as WW1 except optional choice of red or black calfskin grips, perforated and beveled to insure a firm erippine surface.

Today, Penna WWT and WW woods remain in extremely small numbers, and even more so in their original finish.  The set of 2-3-4 fairway woods offered here are just waiting for a matching driver to jaccomipany them.  Such drivers are, like the fairway woods, exceedingly rare but any person who should ever locate one will want these fairway woods!
