1897 John Reid Jr. Yale-Harvard 1st NCAA Championship Photos
In 1897, Yale University won the very first NCAA Championship in golf by defeating Harvard by the score of 24 to 4. The Yale team was led by John Reid, Jr., whose father John Reid is considered the "Father of Golf" in the United States and leader of the legendary "Apple Tree Gang."
Included in this lot are 4 original photographs, mounted on thick card stock. These photographs were taken at the inaugural NCAA Championships, and are stamped May 13, 1897 - during that historic tournament. The photographs include one of John Reid, Jr., the leader of the victorious Yale Team. We believe the others are golfers on Harvard's Team, including W.B. Cutting, Jr.
