1892 George Glennie Medal won by Robert T Boothby for the lowest score combined at the R&A St Andrews' Spring & Autumn meetings. Ornate medal on ribbon with "George Glennie Medal on bar." Round medal portion is 7/8" diameter. Entire piece is about 3" long. Wonderful medal.

Two identical George Glennie medals were competed for - at Royal Blackheath and the Royal & Ancient in St Andrews. We believe this medal is from The R&A  competition held at St Andrews because Robert T. Boothby was an outstanding golfer, listed as from St. Andrews in the Sept. 30, 1892 issue of Golf, where he finished high in the standings of another event.  Also Major Robert T. Boothby, believed to be the father of the Glennie medal winner, was instrumental in bringing Tom Morris back to St. Andrews in 1864 to serve as the professional at the R&A.

The George Glennie Medal was established in 1881 to honor George Glennie, a distinguished golfer and member of the Royal Blackheath Golf Club. Glennie served as the club's Captain in 1862 and 1863, and as Secretary and Treasurer from 1868 until his death in 1886. He achieved numerous victories, winning numerous club competitions. Notably, in 1855, he won the Royal and Ancient Golf Club's King William IV Gold Medal with a score of 88, a record that stood for 35 years. In 1881, to recognize his contributions, the Royal Blackheath Golf Club commissioned the George Glennie Medal, presenting one to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews for annual competition and retaining another for their own. At the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, the medal is presented to the golfer with the lowest combined gross score from the Spring and Autumn meeting competitions.
