“W.P. Smith Patent applied for London,” stamped on crown. Patent was granted and dated 1920.  Original 41 ¾” shaft. Grip is old. Brass plate on sole appears to be original but is not perfectly tight to the head. The Smith "Evolution" driver is unique in the world of golf because it does not have a neck. Instead, the shaft is square at its base and fits into a corresponding space in the back of the clubhead. The back of the shaft can be seen its entire length down to the sole. There is a wood dowel visible on the heel of the face and on the back of the head next to the back weight. This dowl extends through the shaft inside the head to help lock the shaft in place.
