The brass Fitzjohn putter offered here was covered under a 1917 U.S. patent (No. 1,250,296) issued to Ed Fitzjohn and Elmer Stanton. This club, according to the patent, was designed with the intention of locating as much weight as possible below and behind the center of the blade while keeping the shaft and hosel in line with the center of the blade. Hence the dramatic curve in the neck and the manner in which it spreads out when it reaches the ground and extends forward to then form the blade.  

Fixed neck Fitzjohn putters like this one are more rare than the adjustable neck Fitzjohns. This example still has its original 34” shaft that has been regripped with sueded leather that matches the period. For more on Fitjohn putters, see TCA 2 v1 p207
