Offered here is a circa 1875 unmarked track iron from the World Golf Hall of Fame's collection. 5 1/8” hosel. Face is slightly but clearly dished. Crack to the base of the shaft is repaired with old whipping. Slight bowed shaft with nice original sheepskin grip.

Most track irons have a more rounded head. The topline on this head, however is quite straight, much like a cleek or lofter from the same period.  The club is like an early mashie devised in the 1880s, and made as a cross between a cleek and lofter but with a shorter blade and lofted face.  The blade on this club, however, is quite short, functioning more like a track iron, but then again, it's shaped more like a mashie.  For now, let's just call it a "track mashie," even through that is not a historically accurate name...its just what the maker made.

This club comes from the World Golf Hall of Fame's collection, and was on display at the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida before it closed its doors.
