Offered here is without question one of the finest Contestant’s Pins to ever grace the auction block - one of the only known contestant pins from Bobby Jones’ first Major Championship victory - the 1923 US Open at Inwood. And it's a PSA 8! Jones burst onto the national scene at the US Amateur in 1916, but it wasn’t until the 1923 US Open in New York that Jones would break through and finally win his first Major Championship. After this seminal victory, the floodgates opened, sending Jones on a historic run of 13 Major Championship victories between 1923 and 1930.
Contestant badges from early USGA championships are extremely rare. It is believed that there are only three examples of this particular badge in existence - one being Bobby Jones' personal badge which is proudly owned by the USGA. Even more impressive, this badge is in outstanding condition, earning a lofty grade of PSA 8. This is an incredibly high grade for an over 100 year old item. Put it this way, if a ticket to an early Bobby Jones Major Championship victory earned a PSA 8, it would likely be worth tens of thousands of dollars. This is a truly historic piece of memorabilia from one of the Bobby Jones’ most important victories.
