Offered here is a set of clubs previously owned and played by the all-time greatest winner on the LPGA or PGA Tours: Kathy Whitworth, who won an amazing 88 times.
Included in the lot are the 1-3-4 woods which are Walter Hagen Matrix woods, and 5 wood is a Haig Ultra Model 66. The clubs date to the late 1960s to early 1970s.
The irons are 2-PW Walter Hagen "The Haig" L-769 with regular flex shafts with golf pride grips. Two of the irons have a Wilson custom grind code L-769 on them, indicating that Kathy requested some different grind specs-perhaps less bounce, etc. Notice the wear marks: several of the irons, the 3-5-7-9, have some amazing, tour level wear marks on the face-we're guessing she used those clubs as part of practice/warm up routine. The 3 iron is 39 1/4 inches long-Kathy was a tall woman! The putter is Walter Hagen Tom Boy model, 34 1/2 inches long. The Wilson Staff tour bag has her name on the side and bottom of the bag along with one of the head covers as well.
According to our consignor, these clubs were used by Kathy Whitworth in 25 of her 88 career victories. Though we have no reason to dispute that number, it's likely impossible to verify. It is clear, however, that these golf clubs with their perfect wear marks were used for a significant period of time during the peak of Kathy Whitworth's Hall of Fame career.
