Dating to the 1880s, this Alex Patrick putter reflects well on the game of golf as it was played approximately 150 years ago. The equipment was made by hand, no different than an artist crafts a sculpture.

Alex Patrick was born in 1845, two years before his father, John, set up his club making business in Leven, Scotland. Alex became an apprentice in 1857 before finally taking over the family business in 1866, where he remained for most of his life. The only exception to his tenure as a club and ball maker there in Leven was a two-year stint as club maker and greenskeeper to Royal Wimbledon Golf Club.

The 36 ½” greenheart shaft appears original and the sueded leather wrapped grip appears old. The lead back weight is quite large, extending out a ways from the head.  The head measures 1 1/16" in face depth, 5 1/4" in length, and 1 7/8" in width. The finish on the head is original, the “A Patrick” stamp is deep, and the clubhead shows normal wear with no cracks or abuse of any kind.
