Stamped “Carrick X,” this circa 1870 Carrick lofter is not your normal Carrick lofter. The sole of this club rounds up at the toe in a manner not found on earlier irons. Cleekmakers in the 1860s and 70s were not against trying something different, as this iron attests. As golf moved through the 1880s and into the 1890s, clubmakers gradually became more creative. Innovation is now core to the clubmakers of today.
This club was possibly reshafted back in the day, given the small blemish to the metal around the pin. The old, thick sheepskin grip has been wrapped with a thin India Rubber grip is original to the 40" shaft. The hosel measures 5" in length.
